Makeover your smile with Stunning Porcelain Veneers

Beautiful smile. Beautiful you.

Have your teeth discoloured after years of drinking coffee, tea and red wine?

Do you find yourself hiding your smile when you pose for photos, or when you speak? We’re here to help.

Porcelain veneers are the most common type of veneers.

They are made to fit over the front of the surface of the tooth, much like a false fingernail, but permanent. In some cases, composite material can be used instead of porcelain.

Composite veneers are quicker to create and apply, but they are also reversible.

Do I need porcelain veneers?

Over time, many people find that everyday habits such as drinking tea or coffee or even smoking, have affected the colour of their teeth.

While teeth whitening toothpaste, DIY teeth whitening kits and teeth whitening treatments by a dentist are all available options, a more permanent solution can bring peace of mind.

Porcelain veneers can last up to 15-20 years if looked after properly. See Lumineers®

Porcelain veneers can also help to close small gaps between teeth when braces are not suitable.

If one tooth is slightly out of position, perhaps facing inwards or outwards, veneers can also be used to make the tooth appear in line with the others.

How are porcelain veneers fitted?

Unlike lumineer veneers, which are fitted without any alterations having to be made to the original teeth, porcelain veneers require some work to be done.

Some of the enamel on the surface of the tooth may be removed to fit a porcelain veneer firmly in place. However, the amount of enamel removed is minimal and should not cause any problems.

Generally, the process of removing some of the enamel should not be painful, but a local anaesthetic may be given to ensure that the process is as comfortable as possible.

Once the teeth have been prepared, your dental specialist will make an impression (mould) of your teeth to give to the dental technician, who will create your new, bespoke veneers.

To ensure the colour is as natural as possible, the colour of the surrounding teeth will be matched using a shade guide. If you are having a full set of veneers, you will be able to work with your dental specialist to find the ideal shade for your new smile.

Fitting porcelain veneers requires two visits. The first to prepare the tooth (or teeth) and match the shade, and the second to fit the veneers. Once your veneer is ready to be fitted, your dentist will use a special adhesive to hold it firmly to the tooth.

What is the difference between porcelain and composite veneers?

For those seeking a less permanent option, composite veneers are a great choice.

They are often called ‘same-day veneers’ or ‘resin veneers’.

Composite veneers are a much less invasive way to refresh your smile, similarly to lumineer veneers.

However, composites are made of translucent resin, and lumineers are made using an ultra-thin porcelain material.

Composite veneers do not require any alterations to be made to the original tooth (or teeth).

Many people opt for composite veneers because they can be fitted on the very same day.

Our dentist can carefully sculpt and harden the composites in one appointment so that you can walk out with your brand new smile. This type of veneer lasts from 5-7 years and is considerably cheaper than porcelain veneers. Composites are also reversible, unlike traditional porcelain veneers or dentures.
