All-on-4 Dentures

All-on-4

All-on-4 dentures is an innovative way to achieve a new smile fast. It involves replacing an entire row of teeth using a realistic bridge and four, five or six dental implants.

Those who have badly worn teeth, decaying teeth or have gum disease may find All-on-4 dentures a straightforward and reliable solution to tooth loss. The process of inserting implants and fitting temporary teeth can be done in a single day.

Am I suitable for All-on-4 dentures?

Missing teeth can leave your gums vulnerable to bacteria and plaque build-ups, which can lead to gum disease.

Getting implant dentures can drastically improve your overall gum health.

If you have multiple teeth missing and perhaps already wear dentures, you are suitable for All-on-4 dentures.

They provide a more permanent solution to regular dentures, which can be prone to movement and cause discomfort.

If you are considering All-on-4 dentures, you will have an initial consultation with your dentist to examine your gum health. In order for implants to be successful, you must have strong and healthy gums to support the insertion of the implant rods.

What happens during the All-on-4 procedure?

Once your dentist is happy that your gums and jawbone are able to support dental implants, the procedure can begin. You will be given a local anaesthetic to ensure that the treatment is as comfortable as possible.

As All-on-4 dentures replace a full row of teeth, it is not necessary for each individual tooth to have its own implant. As the name suggests, your new row of teeth will be supported by between four and six implants.

Your dentist will make a small incision in the gum and drill a hole into the jawbone before adding the implant rod. An abutment (the fitting that supports the denture or crown) is then screwed into place.

Once all the implants have been fitted, you will be given a temporary bridge so you are able to walk out of the practice with a new smile the very same day.

Your implants will need time to fuse to the jawbone and properly heal. This process can take between six weeks and six months.

What happens next?

In the hours following the dental implant procedure, the local anaesthetic will start to wear off. We recommend taking over-the-counter painkillers to combat any discomfort.

We also suggest only eating soft foods for at least a week after the procedure to avoid putting any strain on the implants.

After the amount of time agreed between you and your dentist, they will assess how well the implants have settled in.

At this stage, dental technicians will work to design and construct a bespoke long-term bridge. This will then be fitted onto the abutments that have been inserted to give you your finished smile.

Caring for your All-on-4 dentures

Unlike bridges, which require special cleaning products, dental implants can be cleaned in the same way as regular teeth. Brushing and flossing will keep your All-on-4 implants and the surrounding gums clean and healthy.

Why choose All-on-4 dentures over conventional dentures?

All-on-4 dentures provide many of the same benefits as dentures. They offer a full row of teeth to improve the appearance of your smile and help restore the confidence you may have lost as a result of losing your teeth.

However, the key difference between All-on-4 and conventional dentures is how long they last.

All-on-4 dentures, much like single tooth dental implants and multiple teeth dental implants, are a more permanent solution for those with missing teeth. As the titanium implants fuse to your jawbone, they create a strengthened structure for your new teeth, allowing them to last up to a lifetime.

Conventional dentures are unfortunately prone to loosening, which can affect the way you eat and your bite. An irregular bite can put added pressure on your gums, which can, in turn, cause them to recede.

Some people may need to undergo a bone grafting procedure for regular implants, but this isn’t necessary with All-on-4. As fewer roots need to be inserted, the process is much more

straightforward.

There’s also no need to wait for your new set of teeth. With All-on-4 procedures, you will be given a temporary bridge so you don’t need to wait for your customised teeth with gaps in the meantime.
